In this last week we had to complete the evaluations. We separated the questions between us and wrote them in the first two lessons.
We recorded the audio in our own time as we thought this would be the most practical. We were able to edit the majority of the evaluations in the remaining lessons however we had to stay behind some days to completely finish. We enjoyed editing and finding different pictures and scenes to incorporate into our timelines and felt a great sigh of relief when we had finally finished. There was some problems such as how one of our team members fell ill and couldn't complete his last evaluation and so we had to compromise and quickly write record edit and upload it to youtube but we were all satisfied with our end product.

This week we finally completed all of our editing. We uploaded our film on Wednesday however as we struggled to find sound effects but eventually obtained them from the final cut pro library.
These sound effects consisted of a woman breathing, screaming and a loud heart beat. The final score music was loud and suspenseful. We particularly liked how it ended on a cliff hanger and the feedback from our teachers and peers was majority positive. This week was very stressful as we had to finish all the editing. We stayed behind many days of this week to ensure we were on top of our work.
We also finalised the name of our movie as 'Nekura Forest', Nekura meaning Dark shadowed in Japanese. We wanted to incorporate a touch of japan in our movie as our storyline was inspired from the Aiokogahara forest in Japan; a popular suicide destination said to be haunted. In fact 'the forest' was filmed in that exact location. We found 2 helpful websites from which we could incorporate our sound, 'Incompetech' and 'Purple planet music'. This week I also went out to film a time lapse to connect the morning to dusk. We discovered the fat motion tool from this and it helped our movie to flow really well. We only have a bit left to film now and hope to finish on Monday next week. On the previous weekend we had finished filming our end scenes. We resolved the lighting issue by using the flashlight on one of our phones and the result was surprisingly great. We edited the majority of this footage into our film. We came across many new tools such as the blade tool.
However once we got feedback from our teachers they told us that the incorporation of vlogs gets a lower mark. Because of this we had to cut out a large majority of them but we couldn't completely delete them as our end scenes are based off of them. This left us quite disheartened but we were able to compromise. We also found some music for the beginning scenes. We couldn't find one track for this and so we ended up overlaying two tracks in the background. We started playing around with different titles for our films but couldn't come up with a conclusion unfortunately. During this week we began editing our footage. We placed the idents (Blumhouse and Paramount Pictures) on our timeline as well as editing the beginning scenes such as the packing of the camping bags and the setting of the map. We also began editing in the vlogs. We came across the security filter which helped us to add time to the vlogs helping the audience to distinguish between the beginning and the end. We gained some positive feedback from our peers which really helped to boost our confidence in making this film.
We also began looking at different sounds to incorporate into our opening. This we found to be quite difficult and we did not discover any suitable sounds to include. We also as a group decided to finish filming on the next available weekend. This week was half term and so my group and I decided to go out and film.
We spent two days filming in two different locations. On the first day we filmed in a small nearby park area with a section of the crane river. We obtained some nice scenery shots from this location, however as it was raining it was difficult to shoot and get usable footage and so overall it wasn't a very productive day. We were also just getting used to the settings on the cameras and how to operate them. The second day however we went to a bigger area in Twickenham which still had crane river flowing through it. This day was more productive as we were able to establish many areas where we could film. We were able to successfully film the beginning scene where they were packing up their bags and setting their maps. Many of the vlogs were also shot. We tried to film some of the thrilling scenes but found it was too dark and the destination we chose had traffiic running in the back when we looked at the footage. Within this week we finished the final storyboard as well as the script. We couldn't get much work done as most of us were away throughout the week. The script was useful as it helped us to outline the overall story line of the opening. Without piecing together the dialogue it would be difficult to film and our actors would be left clueless. It would also make the editing much more difficult as the scenes could be left disconnected from one another.
During this week we created the questionnaire published it and sent it round for people to complete. From the results of the questionnaire we are able to see what the majority of the public would prefer to see in a horror movie and so we can adjust and change different details of the movie to the likability of the audience to make it more interesting for them.
We also completed the draft of the storyboard. I found the storyboard task quite beneficial as it helped to put our idea into a better perspective and we were able to cut out ideas that wouldn't flow within the movie. We also had conversations with our teachers during this week where they 'criticized' our ideas. I found this helpful as it further made us realize that some concepts didn't make sense such as the purpose that our characters were going into the forest for. During this week we researched different film institutions that ideally would produce our type of film. We came up with Blumhouse, an American production company that is most known for releasing horror movies, and Paramount Pictures, a distribution company that has worked on films such as Insidious.
We also finalised our idea in this week; A couple camping in the woods get lost and come across a prohibited forest which they are intrigued to explore. They find a dead body hanging and naturally panic and try to escape however keep returning to the same point. They end up tripping on a log and see a phone which they assumed to be the dead bodies. They search the phone for signal in an attempt to call someone and end up in his phone gallery where they find gruesome pictures of themselves in that deadly state. The film will end with the dead body disappearing from its state in the tree to being behind them. This whole idea is based of supernatural activity. During this week we came up with ideas to base our film opening on. We spent the first lesson analysing past work by students and narrowed down potential film genres. This lesson was extremely helpful as we were able to separate the ideas that wouldn't work from the ideas that would. We ended up deciding on a horror/thriller genre as we believe this will appeal to a large audience. We also started researching films to get ideas from and ended up with 3 that we could analyse; Blair witch, The Forest and Cabin in the woods. We captured ideas that we would take information from and related it to what we aimed to achieve and our idea began to develop. Overall this was a very helpful week.
